Hi, I’m Ryan. I’m an artist, an enthusiastic home cook, and the general manager of my family’s business, Cabbage Island Clambakes, on the coast of Maine.

Salt Moore has had a few lives over the years. It began as a place to share recipes, then became a place I returned to whenever I had something I wanted to make or say. I’m giving it a new life now as a home for my paintings, my writing, and the food I love to cook.

My artwork often begins with the Maine coast: its rocky shores, wooded islands, shifting light, and cold water. I’m also drawn to people and the ways they show closeness, tenderness, and belonging. I work primarily in watercolor, gouache, and pencil, making paintings that move between landscape and figure.

In the kitchen, I follow my curiosity. I love a good project, a generous meal, and a recipe worth making again. You’ll find those recipes here alongside notes from the studio, stories from island life, and the occasional thought that doesn’t fit neatly into a category.
